The Artisan Program
For parents in Haiti, surrendering a child to an orphanage often is a life and death decision. Because many families simply cannot provide the food, shelter and medical care their children need, they must give them up to give them a chance at life.
The Chances for Children Artisan program helps keep Haiti’s families together. As part of our unique training* program, men and women learn to hand craft beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry from recycled cardboard and sell them through Chances for Children. The money they earn means they can provide for their families. It promotes self-reliance and build self-esteem. It lets them can keep their children.
Eighty percent of the proceeds from every sale goes directly to the artisan, and artisans in our program must put 20 percent of their earnings into savings.
When you purchase a product from a Chances for Children artisan, you create a future for Haiti’s families.
*Chances for Children artisans are trained by the skilled staff of The Apparent Project.
