Chances for Children provides the financial and strategic support for existing orphanages and schools in Haiti. We currently support two orphanages (or crèches as they are called in Haiti). The first creche is located in the small village of Lamerdelle, just east of Port au Prince and the second is centrally located in Port au Prince. We also support schools located in the communities where the creches reside. In 2010 we will expand our outreach by adding additional schools, vocational training and medical clinics.
The crèche in Lamerdelle, Crèche de l'Enfant Jèsus, was built in 2003 by hundreds of volunteers from the U.S, Canada and Haiti. The result of those efforts was a beautiful 14,000 square foot facility that is currently home to 40 children, but has the capacity to house up to 100 children. The facility also has a volunteer/guest wing, an on-site English speaking pre-school and a clinic for our fulltime nurses and part time pediatrician. The second Creche in Port au Prince is finishing some remodeling and will be ready to admit children in the summer of 2010. This will be a smaller facility and operate more as a family-style crèche.
For the past 4 years, Chances for Children has been caring for orphaned children and preparing them for their future lives with their new families. We can ensure immediate results, because we have partnered with teams in Haiti who have been active in their local communities for years. To date we have had over 100 children adopted into loving homes in Canada and the United States.
The management team of Chances for Children researched a number of NGO's in Haiti before determining our partner organizations. As we move forward with our other projects (see Our Mission) we will follow the same due diligence to ensure we partner with secure, financialy stable, reputable and results oriented organizations in Haiti.
