Institute Univers:

Institute Univers, located in Ouanaminthe, 5 minutes from the Dominican Republic border was started 15 years ago by Director Hugues Bastien.  The school has prospered in enrollment numbers, programs, academic performance and physical facilities. Institution Univers currently has 2,050 students from pre-K through grade 13.

All students in Haiti need to pass official government exams at the end of their 6th grade, 9th grade, 12th grade and 13th grade. If students do not pass these exams they are not allowed to continue to the next grade. Univers students have always performed above the national average on these exams. In the six years that Univers has fielded classes of 6th graders to take the official exam, only one student has not passed. Most schools in Haiti are thrilled if  30-40 % of their students pass.

Institution Univers is a Christian school that teaches in Haitian Creole, French and English.

L’Ecole ETOILE Brillante de Kenscoff:

This school is a tuition-free school for children in the church community and the orphanage in Kenscoff. There are approximately 195 children who attend this school - 170 Elementary Students and 25 Preschoolers. The children are either living at the orphanage or from families in the community who can‘t  afford school tuition. For many of these children, the meal they receive at school, is their only meal of the day. The current classrooms are held  in tents or plywood structures. Chances for Children, as part of our Community Development project, will be fundraising to build a new school for these children by the start of the 2013 school year.

L’Ecole ETOILE Brillante de Kenscoff is a Christian school that teaches in Haitian Creole, and French.  English instruction will begin when the new school is completed.
