Cholera Outbreak and our Team in Haiti
Cholera Outbreak in Haiti
The outbreak of the deadly bacteria, vibrio cholerae, has killed 250 people, primarily in the Artibonite Valley region of Haiti. This outbreak of cholera is most likely a direct result of poor sanitation conditions that remain from the January earthquake. To learn more about the cholera outbreak this link provides up to date information as of today....http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303864404575572691625613642.html
We have a team (consisting of Craig Juntunen, Thaddeus Scheel and Alecia Settle) arriving in Haiti today and they will be traveling throughout the country. One of their many visits is to an orphanage in Mirebalais (which is in the heart of the Artibonite Valley) and they will be personally witnessing the suffering of people afflicted with cholera. The team will be distributing supplies and filming for the Both Ends Burning Campaign. Another one of their goals is to identify children who we could potentially admit to our new oprhanage in Port au Prince. Seeing the extent of the outbreak, first hand, will certainly gives us all at Chance for Children an even stronger motivation to get the new orphanage up and running as soon as possible. It is hard to imagine how many frail children will be affected by this deadly bacteria. Please keep our team and all the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers. Godspeed to our Team.
