C4C – 4/6/20

Haiti has been hit hard with tragedies year after year for decades, and this virus may be considered no less. Haiti Analysis “spoke with Dr. Ernst Noël, of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy (FMP) in Port-au-Prince, who stated that 800,000 [deaths] is not exaggerated. In his view it is highly probable that more people will die due to Coronavirus than perished in the 2010 earthquake.” Read more about the staggering statistics here: http://haitianalysis.com/2020/03/31/haiti-on-the-precipice-of-coronavirus/ CHURCH: This past weekend, pastors and church leaders...

C4C – 4/3/20

According to Haiti Analysis, “With six million of Haiti’s 11 million citizens living below the poverty line of $2.41 a day, according to the World Bank, most will face a grueling dilemma of how to feed themselves and their families while avoiding virus infection….As the virus hits countries worldwide, it is unlikely foreign governments will be able to marshal the Herculean support that Haiti needs. Haiti spends just $13 per capita on healthcare, compared to $180 by the Dominican Republic,...

C4C – 4/1/20

Since Haiti has few healthcare networks and even less infrastructure, officials have taken a proactive approach to prevent the spread of coronavirus by calling for a national lockdown. The question still remains, “how”? How do we actually prepare? How can we urge people to “wash hands constantly” when water is not readily accessible? How can we urge them to shelter in place when the only way that they can feed their children is to stand out in the sun for hours...

C4C – 3/27/20

As of March 27, there are 8 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Haiti. However, many people believe this number is higher because most Haitians do not have access to medical care and cannot get tested. In their neighboring country, the Dominican Republic, 581 cases have been reported. There are 64 ventilators and 124 intensive care beds in all of Haiti. Only 5 of those beds meet the criteria for a level 1 intensive care unit. CRECHE: All kids & staff at...

C4C – 3/25/2020

All of our American staff are now back in the U.S. until further notice. Our Haitian staff is not coming to work unless it is for an essential job (nannies, nurses at creche, creche staff and facilities people) The medical clinic is only open for creche children at this time. Partners in Health is estimating a 30% mortality rate in Haiti due to it being difficult for the Haitian population to “social distance”, lack of healthcare and weakened immune systems. We will be updating...

Water Troubles in Haiti

Did you know that half of the world’s hospital beds are filled with people suffering from a water-related disease? In developing countries, about 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions. 1 out of every 5 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a water-related disease. Clean and safe water is essential to healthy living. Tiny worms and bacteria live in water naturally. Most of these bacteria are relatively harmless, but some of it...

Get Outside Your Comfort Zone

Recently, something has been germinating inside my brain, working its way into my core. This blog isn’t directed at anyone, it‘s a response to a few years of random comments. A reaction to people wondering, “Why travel to 3rd world countries to volunteer, when there are so many volunteer opportunities in our community”. These past few months, I have been listening to messages on compassion and servant hearts. Messages SO poignant, they inspired me to write what has been on...
