Meet Dr. Augustin, a dedicated doctor who has been

Meet Dr. Augustin, a dedicated doctor who has been serving with Chances for Children (C4C) in Haiti for nearly a decade. His journey to C4C began in 2014.

For Dr. Augustin, his work is more than just a job—it’s a calling. “I feel the love of God every time I look into the little faces in my clinic office,” he says. “I am deeply grateful to the Almighty every day for the grace and opportunity to serve.”

Haiti has struggled with poverty for many years, leading to serious health issues like malnutrition, infections, and anemia.
Dr. Augustin’s mission is to ensure that every child who comes through our doors receives the life-saving medical care they need.

📚 Education is power! We have been supporting 79 students in the Village School, making sure they have access to quality education and a brighter future.

✨Our feeding program has made a significant impact on the lives of 450 children in the community. 🌱

Recognize these? 🌱 They’re just beans; the same beans you may grow in your home garden. These are just like those beans you pick up at your local store or market or grow in your garden. Yet, these beans are different. These beans are a source of food security for a family in our agricultural program. They sustain life. They are one of the crops that farmers grow in rotation to maximize their plots of land and ensure that there is a regular harvest to provide vital food.

These beans are home grown by hard-working Haitian men and women who fiercely battle to keep their families fed during the worst hunger emergency in the western hemisphere. Not only are these beans vital to our farmers, but any extra beans that can be harvested are sold at local markets, to parents desperately trying to feed their own children.

Did you know that the current crisis in Haiti leaves 2 in 3 children in need of humanitarian aid? According to UNICEF, by March 2024, over 362,000 people were internally displaced, with hunger and life-threatening malnutrition reaching record highs.

Poverty in Haiti is staggering, with nearly two-thirds of the population living on less than $2 a day. The situation is made worse by the resurgence of cholera, fueled by a lack of clean drinking water, soap, and access to healthcare.

🌾 Meet Mme Soumène, a resilient entrepreneur from southeastern Haiti! 🇭🇹💪

For 18 years, she and her husband have worked tirelessly to support their family and community. Living with eight others in their small home, they’ve faced the challenges of life in Haiti together. Last fall, Mme Soumène took a bold step to grow their business by participating in our Microloan program with Chances for Children. She used the loan to expand her business, adding charcoal to her offerings.

Her husband, with support from C4C’s agriculture program, works the land to grow vegetables. Together, they’re building a brighter future—she now sells both his fresh produce and her charcoal at the market. Mme Soumène recently shared with our team, “By receiving this loan, I can much better take care of my children. Life in Haiti is so hard, it doesn’t matter how much money you have. But this small loan that I received has helped relieve some of the burden.”

We’re inspired by her strength and grateful to be part of her journey! 🌱❤️

School is starting a little bit later this year in Haiti, and families are getting their children ready to go back once we start up again in October. 📚 ✨One of the requirements of nearly all schools in Haiti is that children wear a uniform. Despite all the hardships of daily life, constant safety concerns, tropical storms, and other uncertainties, families are proud that their children attend school, and they take great care with their children’s uniforms, as you can see in these pictures.

Last year, our Agriculture and Feeding Program lau

Last year, our Agriculture and Feeding Program launched an exciting initiative called Fém Lavi, which means “Farm of Life.” With ports closed and food deliveries to the south compromised, we began growing our own supplemental vegetables to enhance our FMSC Mannapacks. To provide food when we can’t deliver. This effort not only helps stretch our available resources but also provides much-needed homegrown nutrition.

The project has created jobs for local villagers, allowing them to cultivate, care for, and harvest crops for their villages. It’s been truly inspiring to see how our harvests align with community needs. Just recently, we had a successful harvest of potatoes and cornmeal, which we were able to distribute to three of our programs in need. What a blessing this has been!

We are only able to provide for these children because of generous supporters, thank you!
